Williamsburg always takes me back to my "roots". It is where I spent the best years of my life. It was a Sea of Tranquility during the turmoil of the 60's. The political strife, the social changes would all disappear as I took the short walk down Duke of Gloucester to another time, a place in history with its own conflicts but it always helped me to put my times in perspective. There was hope and promise in the dreams of the New World and the New Country. I often took those walks with the lady who would become my wife. We had our hopes for the future too even though we didn't know exactly how those dreams might become a reality.

I post this card to wish all of you the best of the Holiday Season. I post it with the hope that 2009 is somehow smoother than the forecast. I post it to have you put on your great coat, seize the reins and take your vessels through the storm into the future and pray that it is a bright one for each of you.

I have one daughter in foreclosure, another has seen the loss of her job, a son in a far away land hoping to make a go of it since things are so dark here. But that is the point, never give up on your dreams and the HOPE of better times is what will see you through the turmoil.

Peace be to all of you.

In the "Old Days", "Xmas" was perfectly "acceptable" because it symbolized both The Cross and also that thing that people would do on written letters "X" for kisses, "O's" for LOVE......but you'd have to be older to understand that. This "X" doesn't take anything away from Christmas.

I posted this out of LOVE. It's only recently that greetings have become controversial as to how you say them and what they mean. "Seasons Greetings" is something I do when I start rubbing the spices on the Turkey. "Happy Holidays" is something I used to do when I partied. Now? I just get MERRY!.....and play with the grandchildren.

I posted this shot on a photo site that I use and got over 1000 hits in one day with NO deragatory remarks. Sorry the message escaped you.

Thanks once again for your words of wisdom and your obvious up beat look on life. I'm sure your family will recover from the bad economic times we all are feeling right now just because they have you to guide them along.
As usual you have sparked a fond memory for me with that picture. One of my greatest memories of my Grandfather was going to the state fair EVERY year just so he could watch the horse pulls. Funny thing he would not leave the farm for ANY reason except the horse pull contest. Those were awesome days that can't be replaced.
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!!!!

Thanks, folks!

I was unaware that this has become a tradition at the Mariner's Museum for the Lion's Bridge as part of their Christmas decorations. If you haven't seen it, go by and see the Big Cats full of Xmas Pride.
