There were plenty of YP caught in the Northeast until the rain last week. Mike has cancelled most of his trips this week because of high winds. They have not spawned yet. Hopefully, we will have a good day of weather and fishing on Saturday, which is Yellow Perch Appreciation Day.
Fished there yesterday and caught about a dozen out from the harbor, all males. Wind was out of the southeast at 15-20 and got stronger as the afternoon wore on. There are fish there but the conditions need to improve for better catching. Hopefully it will improve towards the weekend as "Nettie" is fired up for the festival.
Mike had a charter this afternoon. They only caught about 30 YP, but they were good size. He said he marked lots of fish in many places, but they were not taking the minnows like they had been. He said they would just grab the minnow, but not the hook. He attributes this to the drop in water temperatures. He said they would get bites every time they threw out, but they just wouldn't take it. He thinks with the warm up the next couple of days, they should be biting good again.
