I will be near cheatham annex in the middle of October and I need some advice. I am addicted to catching Redfish/specks and flounder and want to get into fishing for stripers. I just recently moved here from the Texas coast and fishing strategies/ bait etc. is a little different from what I am used to. I guess what I'm asking is what set ups, bait/lures should I be using. I plan on fishing the cheatham annex pier at night and trying to locate a few spots to fish from a kayak in the morning and afternoon. Appreciate it fellas!! Any help would be awesome!

I'm guessing your military being able to fish Cheatham Annex? Fish really isn't that different for rockfish when they are feeding under the lights they will pretty much hit any decent lure I would use anything that resembled a minnow storm lure gulp bass assassin specks I would fish shallow water in the evening floating peeler under a bobber and redfish alot of people fish for those the same way as in Texas

ummm don't, unless your military. you are not permitted to be there, and there is no permit to get. I believe, but don't quote my, the distance is 500 yards to keep away. It is a great spot because of the longevity of the lights being on water for decades & decades, and there are fish there year round. Been there done that, all pre- 9/11. There are so many other locations close by without the issue. If you can fish there anything will catch fish, damn, the Simpsons "duff beer can" the problem to avoid is noise, and you will only be catching rock

I am military. Thanks for the heads up though. I fished out there in July but the tide was not moving at all. Nothing but rays were being caught that day. I fished mid to late afternoon on our way back from the VB area. I was told from a few other fisherman out there that beginning of October the stripers start coming through and was told to fish the lights with a white buck tail with a grub or a speck rig. I also have been looking for a good bait and tackle shop around there to grab some bait to fish that way as well.
